Get more specific by creating your own playlists manually.
Although auto playlists are a great way to quickly create playlists, they change. For instance, if you create an auto playlist based on the date you added music to the music library, each time you download or copy a new song, that particular playlist will change. Often, this is not an ideal situation. For static playlists that contain specific songs in a specific order, say for a wedding reception, convention, or party, you’ll need to create your own
playlists.
When you create your own playlists manually, you get to choose the artists and songs. You can also keep track of the length, in minutes, of the playlist, just in case you’re trying to create a playlist that meets specific time criteria. As with auto playlists, you name the list, it appears in the Media Library, and you can select it at any time.
To create a playlist:
1. Open Windows Media Player 10 from Start | All Programs | Accessories |
Entertainment | Windows Media Player.
2. Click the Library tab.
3. Right-click My Playlists and choose New. In the right pane of
Media Player 10, you’ll see an empty playlist.
.
4. Expand All Music, locate the song(s) to add, and select them. Drag
the selected song(s) or albums to the New Playlist pane.
5. To name the playlist, click New Playlist and choose Save Playlist
As. In the Save As dialog box, create a name
for the new playlist.
If your Media Library contains songs that require licenses—perhaps you downloaded the songs from Music Now or some other monthly subscription service—Windows Media Player checks for those licenses. If it can’t find the proper licenses, you won’t be able to play the song. a sample playlist with several songs that do not have the required licenses. They are the ones with an exclamation point beside them. To see error details, right-click the song and choose Error Details. The resulting dialog box offers choices for resolving the problem, whatever it is. If it’s due to a lack of licensing, you may want to delete the song from your music library. To delete the song from the library, check Remove File From Library.
Right-clicking a song title also enables you to move the song up or down the list, see the file’s properties, and copy the song to a CD or other device.
